Chicago Cubs – Wrigley Field
Back in 2016 we went to a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field. It was a Sunday night televised game, “Sunday Night Baseball” on ESPN, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This was the season that the Cubs won the World Series and many felt that this game set the stage for the rest of the season.

From our hotel on the Chicago Loop, we took a fifteen minute ride on the L on the Red Line to the Addison-Red stop and from there we had a two minute walk to the ballpark. There were a lot of vendors along the walk that were selling Cubs merchandise so we stopped and bought a Cubs hat for Logan and a Rizzo shirt for a friend.

There’s just something about “the friendly confines” that’s pretty cool when you first get there.

We spent some time on the concourse level getting some food and just checking everything out.

Wrigley Field is known for the ivy that adorns the outfield walls and it is spectacular!

We got some Chicago Dogs and headed to our seats.

The game was on Father’s Day and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate such a great dad than watching a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. We had seats up pretty high, but here’s the thing about Wrigley: no matter where you are sitting, you feel like you are right on top of the action. It was like no game we had ever been to. Honestly, it was ELECTRIC!

A lot of people point to this game on Father’s Day on “Sunday Night Baseball” as the game that positioned the Cubs for their World Series run that year. Some big things happened in this game. Kyle Hendricks pitched a heck of a game for the Cubs in the 10-5 win and left the field to a standing ovation. Hendricks would later go on to pitch in Game 7 of the World Series and secure the win for the Cubs.

Perhaps the biggest thing that happened in this game was rookie catcher Wilson Contreras’ first big league at-bat. Cubs fans were so excited about Contreras and when he pinch hit in the 6th inning, the place went nuts! He got a standing ovation when he came to the plate and crushed the first pitch he saw for a two run homerun. The fans never even sat down and Contreras received a curtain call. It was one of the coolest things I’ve seen and happy we were there for it.

We found Wrigley Field to be everything we thought it would be and much more. Being at a televised night game when the Cubs were having a historical season was so much fun. Wrigley is definitely one of our favorite places to see a game.
