Grand Teton National Park

On Day 11 of our national park road trip, we left Jackson Hole, Wyoming and headed out to Grand Teton National Park. We drove north on Highway 191 past Moose Junction and turned onto Antelope Flats Road to see Mormon Row.

Mormon Row

Our first stop was the iconic Moulton Barn. Several barns remain on Mormon Row that were originally built by Mormon settlers John and T.A. Moulton. The beautiful Moulton Barn and the Teton Range in the background is one of the most photographed sites in the area.

A portion of Andy Chambers homestead also still remains on Mormon Row.

We left Mormon Row, got back on Highway 191, and drove 15 minutes to Moose, Wyoming. Our first stop was Lower Schwabacher Landing. From Schwabacher’s Landing Road, the road dead-ends in a gravel parking lot. Restrooms are located in the parking lot.

Lower Schwabacher Landing

From the parking lot it’s a short walk to the vantage point of the iconic view of the Tetons reflected in the Snake River. You have the option to visit both Upper Schwabacher Landing and Lower Schwabacher Landing. Both are beautiful views, but Lower Schwabacher is the more photogenic site.

We left Lower Schwabacher Landing and headed to the Grand Teton Park Visitor Center. It was about a 15 minute drive and we made a quick stop at Dornan’s Trading Post and Deli to get gas and some snacks. I got my first taste of Huckleberry candy at Dornan’s.

We made our way to the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center where I got my ink stamp from Grand Teton National Park for my National Park Passport Book.

We took the scenic Teton Park Road. We passed Taggart Lake Loop Trail which is a 3.8 mile loop trail and is considered an easy hike. Taggart Lake Trail is a popular area for bird watching and horseback riding.

From Teton Park Road, we turned onto Jenny Lake Road which took us to Jenny Lake Lodge. The Jenny Lake Lodge consists of beautiful, private cabins, but you must book way in advance of your stay because availability is limited.

Jenny Lake Lodge

We stopped at the Jenny Lake Overlook. This is the spot for the most breathtaking views of Jenny Lake.

Jenny Lake

From Jenny Lake we got back on Teton Park Road and went to the Mount Moran Turnout.

Mount Moran Turnout

The Mount Moran Turnout is located right along Teton Park Road and there is a parking lot where you can get out and take beautiful pictures. The Mount Moran summit is the dominant peak of the park’s northern skyline.

After stopping at the Mount Moran Turnout, we headed for the Jackson Lake Dam Overlook, which was about 10 minutes from the turnout.

We got some beautiful pictures of Jackson Lake.

Jackson Lake

We left Jackson Lake and took the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Parkway to Yellowstone National Park. We loved Grand Teton National Park and could have spent days exploring the Tetons, but it was time for us to head to Yellowstone.
