Road Trip to Nashville

Several years ago, my family did a road trip to Nashville, TN. The purpose of the trip to was to attend an annual baseball catcher event called CatcherCON. Our son, Logan, is a baseball catcher and CatcherCON is a weekend event where the top catching coaches in the world, from youth level to MLB, come together to share their knowledge.

From our house to Nashville is a little under an eight hour drive. We gave ourselves a couple of days to explore Nashville before CatcherCON started. We stayed at the amazing Union Station Nashville Yards hotel. We were there in December so the hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas.

Our hotel was about a five minute walk from Broadway, the main “strip” in Nashville where you can find honky tonks with live music, restaurants, and retail shops. We bought souvenirs, checked out cowboy boots at the many boot stores, and listened to some music.

We went to one of my favorites, The Johnny Cash Museum, which is located right off Broadway.

We went to dinner at Moto Cucina Enoteca, which was a five minute walk from our hotel. It was a great Italian restaurant and Logan loved their pizza.

We decided to do a bus tour of Nashville and we used Gray Line Tours. It was cold in Nashville in December so we did the mini bus tour rather than the double decker bus tour. We saw historic downtown, Fort Nashborough, the State Capitol, and the Parthenon.

We also saw Music Row.

Our next stop was the Ryman Auditorium where we got to explore and even go up on the stage.

Our next stop was the Country Music Hall of Fame where we spent a lot of time checking out the amazing exhibits. You could spend a day or more inside the museum and still not see everything. We really enjoyed it!

After exploring Nashville for a couple of days, it was time to head to CatcherCON for three days. Logan loved it and learned tons from all the great coaches there. We didn’t have time to go to the Grand Ole Opry or to a Broadway honky tonk at night so I definitely would add those two things to our next trip.
