Road Trip to Georgia
My family has done tons of short road trips because we have a son who played a lot of travel baseball. Last summer we did a great trip to the Marietta/Atlanta area of Georgia. My son’s travel team was playing at LakePoint Sports, which is the mecca of baseball stadiums for teenage ball players.

From where we live in Virginia to Marietta, Georgia, it is an 8 hour drive. We stopped mid-way to eat at Cracker Barrel, but didn’t really make a lot of stops. It was a long 8 hours.

Since we were going to be in Georgia for a week and a lot of baseball games equals a lot of dirty laundry, we decided to stay in an Airbnb. We were very lucky to find such a beautiful home and wonderful hosts. Our Airbnb was located about 30 minutes from LakePoint Sports which is in Cartersville, Georgia. We were in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood close to shopping, restaurants, and entertainment.

We had one or two baseball games a day and we were so impressed with LakePoint. July in Georgia is pretty hot though when you’re a catcher.

We had some spare time so we snuck in some Mini Golf and Go Kart racing at Mountasia Family Fun Center in Marietta.

We also were able to spend a day at Six Flags White Water in Marietta. It was nice to relax and cool off, but Six Flags White Water was a bit disappointing. They were short on staff so many attractions were closed. I was looking forward to the Lazy River, but it was closed the whole day we were there.

We also found some time to play another round of mini golf, but since it was so hot, we found a really cool indoor place called Monster Mini Golf in Town Center, Marietta.

When the baseball tournament was done, we headed to Atlanta to catch an Atlanta Braves game. The Braves were playing the Los Angeles Angels. We weren’t sure when our last game would be at LakePoint, so instead of getting game tickets in advance, we simply went to the ticket office at the stadium before the game and got tickets. We got pretty good seats that were in the shade.

We had a great week in Georgia! LakePoint was everything we thought it would be and more. Georgia was beautiful, very hot in July, and we found tons of family things to do. While Six Flags White Water was a little disappointing, we had a lot of fun there. The Atlanta Braves game was great and we were able to mark another MLB ballpark off our bucket list.
